A week after his death, Prof Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Nabhany has already had his life story told repeatedly. He has been written about as a mystic scholar, a pillar of Swahili poetry whose death last month at the age of 90 is unlikely to diminish his power as a literary icon.
Nabhany was a self-trained lexicographer who assisted many academics in their research, worked through various fields of Swahili cultural knowledge and captivated many writers for more than 70 years.
