Today, over 100 golfers will be dressed like professional golfer Ernie Els or perhaps like lady pro-golfer Paula Creamer; whether they can swing a golf club like the “Big Easy” or the sassy looking “Pink Panther” is another matter.

SAP Kenya hosts their second Golf Challenge Friday at the Karen Country Club; going by their first challenge, the VIP guests are in for a treat.

Globally, SAP supports several sports including tennis, golf, baseball, basketball, sailing, soccer, and ice-hockey. Commenting on their involvement in sports, SAP Kenya general manager Andrew Waititu said the sports partnerships provide opportunities for SAP to demonstrate real-time analytic software in action.

“Our partnerships in sports enhance the experience for competitors and fans alike, while our ambassadors demonstrate commitment to excellence, perfection, and sustainability, the same values that SAP upholds in helping companies run better,” Waititu said.

“Some of our ambassadors include Andy Roddick, whose performance and charitable work embodies what it means to be a SAP ambassador.

‘‘We also partner with Ernie Els, one of the most decorated golfers globally and the reigning Open champion. As an SAP Ambassador, Ernie Els epitomises the dedication and drive for perfection that SAP invests into the success of its customers.”

Els partnered with SAP’s founder, Hasso Plattner, to set up the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation, a charity that provides golf educational and playing opportunities to talented young South Africans with limited resources.

It is this foundation that has produced the great crop of South African golfers who now play at the highest level. SAP also partners with Gary Player, a true golfing legend, with 165 victories to his name including nine majors. SAP also partners with Paula Creamer, the 2010 US Women’s Open champion.

Creamer’s personal success and dedication to charity inspires young women everywhere.

Away from golf, SAP supports the Inter Milan Academy home to U-19 team, The Primavera, who recently won the 2012 youth champions league.
SAP are also proud sponsors of the New York Yankees, one of the most recognisable sports brands in the world.

“The Yankees embody the winning spirit that makes SAP the leading provider of business solutions and SAP applauds the team’s commitment to giving back to the community,” Waititu commented.

At the end of the SAP Kenya Golf Challenge, one golfer will have managed to swing their clubs with the same ease displayed by Ernie Els or Paula Creamer.

The golfer will be declared the SAP Kenya Golf Challenge Champion.

See you at Karen, where I will be swinging it like Gary Player, short but straight and putting it with the perfection and skill of David Leadbetter!
