The man behind SportPesa

In 2002, Ronald Karauri, SportPesa CEO, drops out of University of Nairobi to take a crack at piloting with Kenya Airways. He becomes a first officer and then captain, and flies the 737, 767, and 777 aeroplanes for close to 11 years.

Over that time, he also becomes the secretary-general of the Kenya Airline Pilots Association. He stops flying and exits aviation (under a cloud) and gets into SportPesa— the online sports betting company— three years ago and sparks diverse nationwide conversation.
