Hemingways Watamu has been named Kenya’s leading beach resort, a boost to the hotel as it rebounds from the pandemic.

Hemingways Group CEO Ross Evans, says the award is proof of the hotel’s resilience and determination to thrive despite the Covid-19 challenges. The award comes as a semblance of normalcy returns to the hospitality industry.

“Bed occupancy has rebounded somewhat supported by the domestic market. We are now starting to see a small return of international business helped by the reduction in global travel restrictions and the pent-up demand for travel,” Mr Evans said, adding that what is drawing guests to the hotel is “the fantastic location on one of Kenya’s famous marine parks.”

Hemingways Watamu is hopeful that December will be a positive month with international and domestic travellers taking the opportunity to celebrate the festive season.

“There remains considerable uncertainty in the recovery but the global progress on vaccination is a very positive sign for the tourism industry,” Mr Ross said.

The hotel beat Diamonds Dream of Africa, Swahili Beach, Diani Reef Beach Resort, Leopard Beach Resort & Spa, The Majlis and Voyager Beach Resort, among other luxury beach hotels.

The hotel is part of Hemingways Collection which owns three properties, Hemingways Nairobi, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara and Hemingways Watamu.
