Chinese firm to build 43-storey block in Nairobi

Aviation Industry Corporation of China (Avic) International Real Estate is developing a 43-storey office block and a five-star hotel in Westlands, Nairobi.

The hotel will have 35 floors. A 25-storey apartment complex will also be build next to the hotel. All the developments will be build on a 7.5 acre land and cost Sh20 billion.

“The location of the hotel tower, which has been proposed to be on the northern side of the eastern plots, open to Westlands Road, was considered due to the calm and quiet location,” says the environmental and social impact report on the project.

Tamarind Group is also putting up a hotel. The firm is set to open a four-star hotel in Nairobi next to its flagship Carnivore Restaurant in the second half of next year.

The hotel management company said that the facility will have 162 rooms and is targeting the growing number of business travellers.

“The Tamarind Tree Hotel will be a modern concept hotel, imbued with an African flavour which will incorporate innovative features to suit the needs of the business and leisure traveller,” said Tamarind in a statement.

The hotel is part of five management deals that the hotelier signed with investors last year.

The hotel announced at the time that it had signed deals to manage properties for investors who buy suites in Osotua Tamarind Tree in Naivasha.

Similar deals were struck for Tamarind Migaa in Kiambu, Tamarind Tree Suites (Rosslyn, Nairobi) and Tamarind Tree Residence (Ngong Road, Nairobi).
