Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (Nibs) has set aside Sh100 million to boost its new technical courses as it diversifies from regular business courses.

Chief executive Lizzie Wanyoike said the kitty will fund establishment of fully equipped ultra-modern workshops and recruitment of competent tutors.

She said the move was informed by “fast changing economic demand where artisan courses appear destined to take over the economy.”

She noted the traditional business studies are more white collar job-oriented whereas the reality of the modern economy is more inclined to self-employment and jua kali sector.

“We want to be judged correctly by history that we did not publicise white collar oriented courses for the sake of earning from the parents.

We are a local institution managed by locals and we owe the country a solution-based approach to training demands,” she said.

The courses followed a thorough market research according to the entrepreneur.

“We want to train on critical fields that are currently suffering a deficit of experts. We want to be felt in the energy sector, software and hardware assembly, motor engineering and mechanics as well as plant operations,” she said.
