The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Nakumatt is among the businesses that have been forced to shutdown due to the incident.
People have been evacuated from several buildings around the area and oil tankers are being driven out of the area.
A fierce fire has broken out near Nakumatt Likoni in Mombasa after a fuel storage tank exploded.

Kenya Power has disconnected electricity supply lines while a contingent of administration police officers are on the ground containing crowd.
Kenya Red Cross society officials are on the stand by with police officers having a rough time clearing people from the scene.
