What you need to know:

  • KNH is a critical public health facility whose operations literally determine life or death for millions of sick people who go there for treatment from across the country.

More than 5,000 workers of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) will gain from a Sh203 million pay rise that has been approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

It is a positive step by the government to reward the staff of the referral facility who have been demanding a basic salary scale adjustment to match the the hospital’s status upgrade by the State Corporations Advisory Committee. The workers recently went on strike to push for the pay raise.

KNH is a critical public health facility whose operations literally determine life or death for millions of sick people who go there for treatment from across the country.

Sadly, when hospital workers stop working during a dispute, patients and their families suffer increased pain, some cases unfortunately leading to loss of life. After settling the salary row, we ask both the management and the workers to deliver services that are commensurate with the improved pay. We also urge the government to pay the salaries without further delay and prevent any new round of work boycott.
