How Covid continues to inspire research, creativity months after suppression

The covid-19 pandemic continues to inspire research and creativity, months after the rate of infection went down.

One of the latest inspirations is a book by an American-based Kenyan Ms Alice Munyua who has authored a book titled The COVID-19 Plague, “A Noisome Pestilence & The Immune System Gone Awry.”

The book is about answering the most pressing questions about the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As things are beginning to wind down from the current pandemic, there still remains a lot of puzzling arrays of outcomes. For instance, why were some people so badly affected, while others only showed mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. Why did vaccinated people continue to fall sick even after getting multiple vaccines against this disease?

“What lessons did we learn, and are we prepared for the next pandemic? There has been talk about the next pandemic for the last two years now, is the public aware about this and are they ready? Many will find answers to these questions in this book,” says Ms Munyua.

According to Ms Munyua, this was the most complicated book she has ever written.

“At first, I thought it would be easy to write. I figured it would take no more than four months to write it, but it took the whole year (2022). I found out quickly that the immune system is the most complex system in the human body.

“In my opinion, it is more complicated than the human brain. However, I put it together and simplified it to the best of my ability. I broke down a complex system into simple understandable bite-sized nuggets,” she says.

Ms Munyua adds that the immune system was very difficult to write about as she sought to find out why some people died as a result of infection with the COVID-19 virus, others got very sick, some only had mild symptoms and others had no symptoms at all.

It was also very challenging to write about the new Biotechnology used to make the new COVID-19 vaccines and how it differs from past vaccines.

“I had to read and study a lot,” she says.

She notes that the inspiration behind the book is to empower people after witnessing fear that gripped the world at the height of the pandemic.

“It is true that it was brutal and none of us had gone through a pandemic before in our lifetime,” she adds.

Ms Munyua says that a number of scientists claim that there can always be a next time and therefore there’s need for adequate preparation.

“Since they are talking about the next one, I want people to be prepared.  Not with masks, gloves, cleaners and sanitizers. I want people to boost their natural defense network, which is available to them free of charge,” she adds.

This, according to her, can only be achieved through “the good old immune system.”

She notes that unlike in the old days, the current generation neglected taking care of the immune system.

“We need to change that before the next pandemic hits planet earth. If it has happened before, it can happen again, and we need to be prepared,” she says.

The book is available on Amazon online market and electronic copies are also available on Amazon kindle.

“My next project is an area very dear to my heart. I would like to write about Cancer treatments. Cancer is known to kill more than 10 million people a year globally.

She adds that even though the medications are not affordable, and they are not available to the general population. But more than that, the treatments do not address the underlying root cause of cancer, which she would like to address in the book.

Ms Munyua has authored 10 books so far addressing various topics around human health.
