Mondo Ride unveils parcel delivery services in Nairobi

Dubai-based taxi app Mondo Ride has ventured into parcel delivery services to widen its revenue streams in the wake of growing competition.

The taxi-hailing app has introduced a new feature that allows customers to order for delivery of goods within Nairobi with plans to roll out the service in Tanzania later in the year. Mondo Ride is available in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu as well as Kampala in Uganda.

The minimum cost of sending a parcel within a seven-kilometre radius in Nairobi is set at Sh150. Distances exceeding the shortest ride are being billed at Sh30 per kilometre.

The service is exclusive to packages weighing below 30 kilogrammes.

“Our corporate clients need an efficient and easy parcel delivery service that will allow them to send items across the city in just minutes. Mondo Ride Parcel Delivery does just that,” said Mondo Rides social media and marketing manager Brian Mwangi.

“Thanks to our unique expertise in corporate client relations, we were able to design this service matching the needs and requests of current and future clients.”

The new service comes in the wake of an additional Sh200 million capital injections the company raised earlier in the year from the UAE and Egypt investors to drive expansion throughout Africa. Launched in January 2016, Mondo Ride is a home-grown African ride-hailing business headquartered in Nairobi.

“This funding round will enable Mondo Ride to provide even more rides for busy, active people across the fastest growing cities in Africa. We currently have operations in five cities across Africa, and plan to open six new cities by the end of 2018, significantly increasing ride numbers,” said Mondo Ride CEO and co-founder Troels Andersen earlier.
