Two Kenyan hotels have been voted among the top 25 in Africa by a US travel website TripAdvisor.
Fairmont Mara Safari Club located at the popular Maasai Mara National Reserve was ranked the 11th top hotel in Africa while Hemingways Nairobi was ranked the 22nd top hotel on the continent.
In Kenya’s top 10 hotel category, Fairmont Mara Safari Club was voted the best hotel in the country, Hemingways Nairobi took second position, while Medina Palms in Watamu was placed third overall.
Sarova Mara Game Camp took fourth position, Lantana Galu Beach in Diani was fifth, Pinewood Beach Resort was sixth while Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge was ranked seventh overall.
Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge in the Tsavo West National Park was rated eighth, Ocean Village Club Diani was placed ninth while Blue Bay Village in Watamu completed the top 10 list.
The TripAdvisor 2018 award winners were chosen by millions of travellers from around the world.
The Kenya Tourism Board chairman Jimi Kariuki yesterday applauded the local hotels that were rated among the best.
The KTB boss said the accolades were an evidence that Kenya had quality hotels, which offer world class service to holidaymakers.
“It is encouraging that our hotel products are receiving global recognition. I thank the tourists, who voted for our hotels thereby putting Kenya on the world map,” he said.
On the global ranking category, Viroth’s Hotel, Siem Reap, Cambodia, was voted the best hotel in the world, Tulemar Bungalows and Villas from Costa Rica was second while Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur from India was third overall.
On Africa rankings, The Oberoi Hotel from Mauritius took top position, Baraza Resort and Spa from Zanzibar was second while Lux Belle Mare also from Mauritius took third position.
