Five women-led startups were awarded Sh1 million funding after topping the second cohort of Standard Chartered’s Women in Technology Incubator 2019.

The five teams were selected from a list of 10 shortlisted and incubated at Strathmore University’s @iBizAfrica hub for six months where they were coached, mentored and offered business management skills.

“It was a tough choice selecting the winners from the top 10 pool of very talented young people with brilliant ideas. These five teams have shown us dedication and willingness to work,” said Joseph Sevilla, Director, @iBizAfrica.

The five include Bumpy Maternity Wear, a fashion enterprise established in 2017 to supply garments for middle class working expectant mums, Dermi Joy Skincare, an all natural skincare brand and Nature’s Bowl enterprise which offers nutritious composite flours.

Lugha Ishara, a community-based organisation with a mission of achieving the transformational development of deaf children through technology-based innovations also received Sh1 million.

Abantu (Range) also got funding.
