University of Nairobi deputy vice-chancellor in charge of Research Prof Lucy Irungu is the new vice-chancellor of Machakos University.
Five acting vice-chancellors of public universities have been confirmed while Machakos University boss failed to make the cut.
In the appointment made by then acting Education secretary Fred Matiang’i, University of Nairobi deputy vice-chancellor in charge of Research Prof Lucy Irungu is the new vice-chancellor of Machakos University.
She takes over from Prof Francis M. Mathooko who has been acting vice-chancellor since the institution received its charter in 2016.
Prof Paul Wainaina, who has been acting vice-chancellor of Kenyatta University since the exit of Olive Mugenda in 2016 has been confirmed, same as Prof Daniel Njiru of University of Embu.
At Rongo University Prof Samuel Gudu who has been acting vice- chancellor has been confirmed. Prof Mary Ndung’u was confirmed as Kirinyaga University vice-chancellor while Murang’a University boss is Prof Dickson Nyariki.
However, questions remain on the recruitment of the vice-chancellor at Moi University following the controversial interviews that placed Prof Laban Ayiro, who is holding the position, in second position.
Prof Ayiro, who was appointed acting vice-chancellor in September 2016, has had his term extended several times.
