The ongoing Anglo Leasing trial suffered a setback after the prosecution failed to secure a court in UK through which the suit was to be conducted via video-link.

The court was expecting to hear witnesses between Thursday and Monday, but this was pushed to December, further delaying the trial. The court was told that the office of Director Public Prosecution failed to make a request to the UK authorities in good time to provide a courtyard for the video link.

Key international witnesses for the trial are not ready to testify physically in court mostly owing to fears over their security and partly because of their busy schedules.

Defence lawyer Careen Sadia said Kenya waited until October 2, 2018 before informing the UK authorities of its need for a court in Britain for the trial.

The UK Act on video conferencing demands requests to be made in advance.

In the suit, former senior government officials and businessmen have been charged in connection with multibillion-shilling security tenders that the government cancelled as irregular.
