Gulf African Bank (GAB) will partner with Google to train owners of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in digital skills to enable them to unlock their potential.

The free training sessions are open to individuals aged between 18 and 35 irrespective of whether they bank with the Islamic lender or not.

“In our engagement with SMEs banking with us, we noticed the need to inculcate some digital skills into the entrepreneurs, which would help them operate their businesses better and grow them,” said GAB head of consumer banking Abdullahi Adan yesterday.

The training starting this month will cover Nairobi, Garissa, Malindi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Eldoret and Lamu.

Mr Adan said interested SME owners — who will receive a certificate from Google — can register for the training through the GAB’s social media pages.

The training will cover the building of online presence and strategies, mobile marketing, search engine marketing and optimisation and digital opportunities in business.

Early this year, the lender introduced paperless banking.
