Kenya is set to host an exhibition on Halal products as it seeks to tap the growing Muslim community customer-base.

The expo, the second of its kind in East Africa, will be open to both Muslims and non-Muslims under the  theme ‘‘Promoting Ethical Alternatives.’’
It will be held from November 25 to 26 at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.

About 100 exhibitors including Islamic financial institutions, real estate companies, education institutions and clothing firms are expected to showcase and market their products to consumers during the expo.

“The halal expo will continue to be a platform for halal businesses to showcase their businesses and create more ethical alternatives for Kenya and beyond,” said Umi Wabomba, Director of Kijani Communications, which is handling media matters.

Ms Wabomba said the expo will also provide an opportunity for industry players and the public to share ideas on available opportunities and services in the sector.

The global halal industry, estimated at more than $2.1 trillion (Sh216.3 trillion), is among the fastest growing sectors in the world economy.

Kenya is seeking to position itself as a region hub for the growing sector.

The expo will bring together businesses which provide products and services that promote ethical and fair transactions.
