Capital markets regulator fights Sh10.5m damages award to Cytonn

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and its chief executive officer, Wyckliffe Shamiah, have moved to appeal a court order requiring them to pay real estate firrm Cytonn Investments Management Plc Sh10.5 million in damages for remarks aired six years ago.

The High Court ruled on March 11, 2026 that Mr Shamiah’s statements linking Cytonn to possible “criminal” conduct misled the public and unfairly damaged the company’s reputation in the financial market.
