The route will be served by a fleet of Dash 8 Q100 (37-Seater) and Dash 8 Q 300 (50-Seater).
“Initially, we started with a daily flight from Wilson Airport to Lamu via Mombasa i.e. Wilson–Mombasa–Lamu–Mombasa – Wilson. In this way the Wilson–Malindi–Wilson and Mombasa–Lamu–Malindi sectors were not served,” said Skyward Express chief executive officer (CEO) Mohamed Abdi.
“This new route will address the two sectors and also serve Lamu twice daily. Firstly, through Mombasa and secondly through Malindi.”
Return tickets between Wilson-Malindi will cost Sh4,950 with Malindi-Lamu going for Sh3,000.
The launch also coincides with the upcoming Valentine’s celebrations that will see more people travel to the coastal region.
“Valentine was a good place to start the flight – but it will continue – as we continue to stimulate demand on the route,” he said.
However, he said passenger numbers were low by about 45 percent during this valentine period.
