Equity Group Foundation 750 students who were among the top performers of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have been selected to join the scholarship programme.
The students will be enlisted in a six-month pre-university internship programme at Equity Bank branches countrywide as they prepare to join university later in the year.
The cohort consists of 350 students who attained mean grades of Grade A and A-, 167 top-performing students from each sub-county who scored Grade A (plain), and 233 others who scored a mean grade of A (84 points) in the examinations.
The interns will receive a monthly stipend, with a portion of it saved and released to them upon transition to university to instil a saving culture early. They will also receive mentorship and coaching from professionals with diverse skills to deepen their knowledge before they settle the careers to pursue and study.
Equity Group Foundation executive chair James Mwangi said the programme would provide the students valuable work experience, nurture leadership skills and empower them to become change-makers in their communities.
“I hope to study a course at university, to better understand and contribute to the healing of my community and beyond,” said Dieume Baraka, a former Starehe Boys Centre student.
