The business of death is quietly transforming in Kenya. Once left to extended families and committees, funerals are now increasingly managed by professionals who organise everything from caskets and hearses to paperwork and programmes.

One of them is Anne Mwangi, the founder of Graceful Goodbyes. She earns a minimum of Sh250,000 from the funeral budget and says her inspiration came from the realisation that, “When you are hit by death, it rearranges your mental state.”
