Butali Sugar Mills is set to double its crushing capacity to 5,000 tonnes of sugarcane per day (TCD) as the Kakamega-based miller squares off with its next-door rival, Rai Group’s West Kenya Sugar.
Regulatory filings said the firm will invest about Sh1.3 billion in expanding its Manyonje plant, up from the current 2,500 TCD. Once completed, Butali’s capacity will match that of West Kenya, which two decades ago fiercely opposed its establishment.
