Mobile lending firm Tala has appointed Jimmy Gathage as its new Kenya director of engineering.

Jimmy boasts more than 13-years of experience in multiple information technology (IT) domains spanning IT operations, software engineering, IT project management and cyber security.

He spent 11-years in banking and fintech industries undertaking projects for financial service providers across the continent.

Also, he worked on the first crowd-funding platform in Africa and was one of the first engineers to build mobile and agency banking solutions for financial institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Information Technology from Strathmore University and several certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), the only Certified Software Security Lifecycle Professional ( CSSLP) in Kenya and Prince 2 Project Management.

Jimmy is also the current leader of the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Nairobi Chapter and a member of ISC2.

This is one of the many high-profile hires that the digital credit provider has brought in as it continues its growth in the market, establishing its foothold as a leader in the fintech market.

Only this month, it appointed Munyi Nthigah as its new Kenya General Manager to oversee business growth.

He took over from Ivan Mbowa who now serves as Fidelity Bank Ghana as Fintech NewCo Consultant.
