A committee of the National Assembly has backed a push by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) for a change in the law to gain budgetary autonomy and have its officers carry firearms, amid a plan to hire more than 300 investigators.
The Committee on Administration and Internal Security said that this would grant Ipoa more teeth in its functions.
