Career banker who loves the arts

Philip is sort of “new” in town. For those unapprised: he was born in Maseno, Kisumu. Schooled at St Lawrence University in the US (1980: Economics) and later an MBA in Finance from Suffolk University in Boston (1985).

He’s worked in various banks in East Africa and in Malawi, Nigeria, DRC, South Africa, Pakistan, Malaysia and Singapore, among others, in his 30-year career as a professional banker. Before taking up the reins in Nairobi, he was running CFC Bank in Uganda.
We met at the bank’s headquarters along Chiromo Road (to get to his office, we had to go through a labyrinth of security doors and lifts). A pleasant man, he spoke softly, thoughtfully and with a sense of humour and brilliance.
