How genes affect your decision making process
Decision-making is a complex process, particularly when we are uncertain about the outcomes. This makes the process open to influence depending on what is known as the ‘framing effect’.
How would you respond if your surgeon told you that you had an 80 per cent chance of surviving an operation – would you agree to undergo the procedure? How about if you were told you had a 20 per cent chance of dying?
The answer may partly depend on your genetic make-up, according to a new study from UCL (University College London), funded by the Wellcome Trust. Decision-making, the findings show, is a complex process, particularly when we are uncertain about the outcomes.
