What should a driver do if the vehicle behind follows too closely? CR
Be aware, and still focus your main attention on what is in front of you. Leave a bigger gap to the car in front of you, to reduce the chances of having to brake suddenly. Resist the temptation to give the follower a heart attack by jabbing your brakes.
If you deem it safe, you can send a gentle message by pressing your brakes enough to make the brake lights shine without actually slowing your car.
Consider, too, why the driver behind might be doing what he is doing. Are you driving at a lower speed than the ambient flow? Or have you missed several good overtaking opportunities in heavy traffic?
You have sole discretion and control over your chosen speed, but you do not have the right to drive in a manner that obstructs the reasonable flow of traffic.
