Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said AgriBiz is aimed at enabling farmers to launch commercial agriculture with produce being sold via their societies that will be empowered to engage in value addition.

“Increased productivity is a step towards enhancing food security and administration will ensure the success of the AgriBiz project to benefit more farmers and enhance agriculture in the region,” said Dr Mutua.

Danish Ambassador to Kenya, Ole Thonke said enabling locals to appreciate agriculture as a challenging but rewarding business could spur transformation of many subsistence farming activities to commercially-oriented enterprises.

“Many farmers still operate on a subsistence scale due to limited access to finance, inadequate access to quality inputs, reliance on rain-fed approaches and limited access to reliable markets,” he said adding that the AgriBiz programme is designed to identify appropriate entry points that make agriculture attractive for youth and women.
