Mercy, a textile worker, lost her job during a health crisis and returned to her rural home in Mbooni, Makueni County, without income or a plan.
To feed her five children, she began crushing stones into gravel, earning just Sh100 (about $0.67) a day. Her family often skipped meals and couldn’t afford school fees.
