Mr Joseph Kipchirchir Boinett was on Wednesday morning sworn in as Inspector General of Police. The swearing in ceremony was conducted by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga at the Supreme Court.

Mr Boinett, who was vetted by Parliament, will now take over office at Jogoo House where he will be operating from.

The new IG comes into office at a time when the country is grappling with insecurity whose epitome was last month’s shooting and killing of Kabete MP George Muchai, his driver and two body guards within the City Centre.

Mr Boinett’s appointment was not without controversy as during his vetting, MPs raised issue with his degree papers after it emerged that America’s Washington International University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Diplomacy and International Studies, was not accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the Distance Education and Training Council.

He has two Masters degrees and has attended 12 other professional courses.
