A showdown looms between police and opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) supporters at Uhuru Park on Tuesday after Nairobi County Police Commander Japhet Koome said the planned ‘‘swearing-in’’ of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka would not be held at the grounds.

Nasa has insisted that the function will be held at the park.

Mr Koome maintained that police had not been notified about the event as required by law. “There has been no formal communication to us,” Mr Koome said.

“ They will not access it. I have instructed police officers to be there and ensure that there is no breach of security,” Mr Koome said.
