AAR Hospital has launched specialist paediatric clinics to meet the rising demand for children’s healthcare.
The clinics, to be run at the hospital on Kiambu Road, will offer a wide range of services from regular check-ups and vaccinations to health screenings for children of all ages to promote early diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases.
“Children have unique physiological and psychological needs that differ from adults, the paediatric clinics will have specialised paediatricians, equipment, and age-specific treatment protocols,” said Cynthia Omina, the AAR Hospital Head of Clinical Services.
The increased demand for paediatric healthcare comes at a time when the incidence of childhood diseases, congenital disorders and developmental delays is on the rise, creating a need for specialised services.
Early intervention has been proven to significantly improve long-term health outcomes.
Prior to the opening of the specialist clinics, AAR Hospital offered a limited range of paediatric services. Now, it will have at least 11 paediatric clinics.
They are dermatology, nephrology, gastroenterology, neonatology, neurology, haemato-oncology, surgery, ENT, cardiology, endocrinology and nutrition.
“We emphasise on a team-based approach where paediatricians, specialists, surgeons, and mental health professionals work collaboratively. This ensures comprehensive care for each child, addressing both physical and emotional needs,” said Dr Omina.
Child and adolescent psychology will offer support for mental health issues such as anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder and depression, while emergency pediatric care will handle acute conditions or accidents that require urgent treatment.
“We have invested in the latest medical technology to provide cutting-edge diagnostics and treatments, such as minimally invasive surgical tools, and advanced neonatal care systems,” said Dr Omina.
