The craze for kraft beverages among Nairobi’s “cool kids” is about to intensify after a new tax law reduced excise duty on these drinks, in a move that is also aimed at luring investors into this industry.

The measures contained in the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 also sought to encourage investment into craft beverages, by slashing further excise duty paid by small independent brewers engaged in the production of beer and wine produced using non-alcoholic drinks such as cider drinks which are made from fruit juices.
