UK-linked consortium eyes mining permit to revive Kerio fluorspar project
Rusting trucks which used to ferry fluorspar, parked at Kimwarer shopping centre in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County on March 01, 2023, which also used to be vibrant when Fluorspar Mining Company was in operation, but collapsed in 2016.
A consortium of firms, led by London-based Fujax UK Limited, has applied for a mining licence to revive the collapsed fluorspar mining project in Kimwarer, Kerio Valley in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Hassan Joho, Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, confirmed that the consortium known as Sofax Fluorspar Kenya Ltd has applied for the nod to mine fluorspar on over 44.732 square kilometres of land.
