The taxman has lost a bid to impose taxes on a Sh1.7 million car imported by a woman living with disability, turning the focus on the depth of modifications required for vehicles shipped under the special category.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) had declined to grant customs duty and value-added tax (VAT) exemptions on a vehicle imported by Catherine Ngina on the grounds that it lacked the modifications required to qualify for the special category of exemptions.
