Nocturia: If you are waking up to urinate more than twice, you need to go for a check-up

The body produces less urine at night due to a surge in the anti-diuretic hormone. This surge decreases with age and with some medical conditions like sleep apnoea.

For some people, getting up to pee once at night feels normal. You go to bed, wake up briefly to use the toilet and fall straight back asleep.

But if you are waking several times every night, a condition known as nocturia, it can be quite disruptive to your health. Left unchecked, nocturia can lead to daytime fatigue and, in older adults, a higher risk of falls on the way to and from the bathroom.
